Our import partner for Steven Hoyos’ coffee is Semilla. Since the beginning, their vision has been to connect smallholders and roasters from the first samples of every harvest. To foster stronger relationships, they’ve added more spot coffees (like this one) to their offering as they’ve grown.
Estiven Hoyos is part of the next generation of the Hoyos Alvarado family, a third-generation coffee-producing family deeply rooted in the Colombian countryside. Having grown up working alongside his father, Don Rodrigo, Estiven gradually learned every stage of coffee production, from harvesting to processing and drying. Today, he continues to build on his family’s long relationship with coffee while helping lead the farm into a new generation.
In 2017, Estiven and his family planted their first 5,000 Pink Bourbon trees, a decision that has since proven highly successful. He sees specialty coffee as an opportunity to share the value of his family’s work with people around the world. This lot undergoes a carefully controlled washed process, including multiple fermentations and a slow drying period of 18–22 days, resulting in a vibrant and expressive cup.
We’ve roasted this coffee on the lighter side to showcase its delicate elderflower florals, juicy peach acidity, and the classic lemongrass character we love in a Pink Bourbon. It shines beautifully as a pour-over, batch brew, or AeroPress.
