As with all of our coffees, our decaf is something we’re really proud of! It tastes delicious and is produced with skill and care. It’s our aim to always provide a tasty decaf rich in flavour so no one misses out on a daily coffee ritual.

Producer Haider Abamecha owns and operates a 532-hectare coffee farm in Limu Kossa Woreda, Ethiopia, located between 1,865 and 2,090 meters above sea level. The farm is planted with local Ethiopian varieties (7410, 74140, and 7440) and managed with traditional processing methods: cherries are pulped, fermented overnight, washed, and dried on raised beds, before being dry-milled in Walmera Kolobo Woreda near Addis Ababa. With over 30 years of experience in the coffee sector, Haider began exporting in 2011 and now manages multiple certified farms and collection networks. His Limu Kossa farm employs over 4,000 seasonal workers and produces about 20 boxes annually under the guidance of a resident agronomist. He has also expanded to a second, 300-hectare certified Organic and Rainforest Alliance farm in Dangaja, which produced its first harvest in 2025, and a third 120-hectare farm in Gera currently under development.

Beyond production, Haider emphasises ethical and socially responsible practices. His farms are certified under Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and C.A.F.E. Practices standards, ensuring adherence to human rights, labor protections, and worker welfare. He contributes to local communities by distributing school supplies, funding road construction, and supporting education through school building. Additionally, his Kebena-based collection network, which includes eight washing stations, is undergoing Rainforest Alliance certification. The lots purchased by Osito from the 2024/2025 harvest come specifically from Haider’s original Limu Kossa farm and were decaffeinated in Germany using the EA Method with sugarcane-derived ethyl acetate.

Our long time partners Osito are a small exporter and importer, operated by current and former farmers, exporters and roasters. Their focus is building multi-year relational business: trying to meaningfully bridge the gap between roasters and farmers, all the while offering high quality and offering better rates to coffee growers than others in the market. They pride themselves on their traceability and transparency and being honest about the challenges the coffee industry is facing.

This is the first time we at Vote are roasting an Ethiopian decaf, and we’re very excited to share it. Like many Ethiopian coffees, it carries delicate floral aroma reminiscent of chamomile, a body of blueberry sweetness, and a juicy mandarin-like acidity. Roasted as an omni, it delivers a perfectly balanced profile that works beautifully as both espresso and filter.
