We first featured this coffee two years ago, and it quickly became a favourite. When we tasted it again this year, we were delighted to find it even more floral than before and there was no doubt we wanted to bring it back.

Azahar are our export partners for this coffee. We greatly admire their approach, particularly their Sustainable Coffee Buyer’s Guide. A key part of their work is paying stable, sustainable prices for high-quality coffee to support farmer incomes and enable reinvestment in farms and families. Unlike traditional supply chains tied to volatile commodity markets, Azahar collaborates with producers to create income stability by developing quality standards that unlock market access. While the goal is to deliver meaningful financial outcomes, coffee’s future remains under threat from climate change and systemic poverty driven by dependence on the commodities market.

Huila is one of Colombia’s most celebrated coffee-growing regions, known for producing exceptional specialty coffees thanks to its ideal growing conditions. Located in the southwest of the country, Huila’s mountainous terrain rises between 1,600 and 2,000 metres above sea level, creating a perfect environment for high-quality coffee. The region is also rich in biodiversity and shaped by diverse microclimates.

This lot was produced by Ederleth Lozano in the municipality of Algeciras, one of Huila’s key rural coffee-producing areas. Azahar have been buying coffee from Ederleth for over seven years and have visited her finca, Cosita Linda, located at 1,800 m.a.s.l., on multiple occasions. Coffee production there often takes place on steep terrain at high elevations, making harvesting an intensive task. Still, coffee remains the primary agricultural activity, supported by Algeciras’ long history of cultivation within Huila’s recognised coffee growing zone.

This particular lot is a blend of Castillo and Colombia varieties grown at 1,600 m.a.s.l. The cherries were hand-picked at peak ripeness, then collected, weighed, and processed at the farm’s wet mill. After a 36-hour fermentation, the coffee was depulped and washed, before drying for 14 days in marquesina.

Lightly roasted to highlight it's strong floral notes, vibrant orange acidity, and a clean and juicy blackcurrant aftertaste.
