In May 2023, we got the chance to visit Rwanda together with one of our importing partners, “Raw Material”, and a group of roasters and green buyers from the UK. Muraho Trading Company, the two brothers Karthik and Gauram Anbalagan, who are running the operations at origin, showed us to the washing stations and the dry mill they operate.
Bumbogo was the first washing station we visited on our trip. After a warm, heartfelt and musical welcome, Eustache, Muraho operations manager, as well as the station manager Fidel, had the answers to all of our questions.
Over the past 5 or so years, the washing station has been able to more than double its production volume. The setting up of 106 additional drying beds, distribution of seedlings and agricultural education have been majorly responsible for these higher yields, leading to higher income for the producers.
Coffee from here is mainly Red Bourbon, with some Geisha, Tabi and Typica. Their production includes Honey-Processed and Natural coffee as well (we're about to run out of the Natural lot, hopefully you got to taste it!). Cupping Bumbogo Coffee at origin, pre-ship and landed was always delicious, and we're so honoured to be able to roast it for you. In contrast to the Natural, this Washed lot is a little more transparent and complex.
